Homepage improvements – primary for the new visitors

Here are a few things that immediately stood out to me when visiting nette.org. This feedback focuses on how the homepage presents Nette to a new visitor. I believe the current website significantly undersells how capable and actively developed Nette actually is.

Areas for improvement

  • Modernize the visual presentation. The current design makes Nette feel dated and may give newcomers the impression that the framework is no longer actively developed.
  • Clarify the main message. The headline “Real programmers don’t use frameworks” is distinctive, but its negative framing may confuse first-time visitors. The homepage should immediately communicate what Nette is and why someone should use it.
  • Explain Nette’s differentiation. Visitors should quickly understand why they might choose Nette over Laravel, Symfony, or other PHP frameworks.
  • Show the framework in action. A short code example or installation command would make the product feel more tangible and help developers get started immediately.
  • Use a more specific call to action. “Get acquainted” is vague. Something like “Build your first Nette application” or “Get started with Nette” would provide a clearer next step.
  • Demonstrate that the project is active. Displaying the current version, latest release, supported PHP versions, GitHub activity, or recent improvements would reinforce that Nette is actively maintained.
  • Replace outdated social proof. The claim that Nette was the third most popular PHP framework links to a survey from 2015. Today, this may weaken credibility rather than strengthen it.
  • Present longevity as maturity. “Over 18 years of development” is valuable, but it should be connected explicitly to stability, backward compatibility, security, and production use so that it does not suggest legacy technology.
  • Improve content hierarchy and scannability. The most important benefits—security, productivity, clean architecture, excellent documentation, and standalone components—should be visible immediately and expressed more concisely.

Overall, the homepage should make visitors feel that Nette is a modern, actively developed, highly reliable European PHP framework suitable for serious applications.
